FAQ: How to Donate Your Car
How to donate my car?
The car donation process is very simple. To donate your car, just complete our online car donation form or call one of our friendly staff members who can answer any questions you many have. Once we have received your information your car donation will be picked up as soon as possible and an IRS tax deductible donation receipt sent to you. If you wish to donate your car over the phone, please call us at 1.888.990.4KID(543) and we process your car donation in a matter of minutes.
How is my tax deduction determined for my car donation?
The IRS allows you the donor to estimate the fair market value of your car up to $500. If your car sells for over $500, the IRS allows you to claim the higher selling price as a deduction. All vehicle donations are tax deductible.
What paperwork will you need from me to donate my car?
We will need the title for the car you are donating and a lien release for the vehicle if there was ever a lien on the car. You will need to sign your name on the signature of seller line located on the title. Please sign your name as it appears on the front of the title. If more than one person is listed as an owner on the front of the title, all persons listed as owners must sign on the signature of seller line(s).
What happens once you have my car donation information?
One of our professional towing companies will contact you to schedule a date and time to pick-up your vehicle. Please have the keys and signed title ready for the tow company at time of scheduled pick-up.
Do I have to be home when my donated car is picked up?
No, just tell the towing company where in the car you will be leaving the signed title, keys, and lien release. The towing company will leave you a towing receipt showing that your vehicle was picked up on behalf of Cars to Help Kids. Please remember to remove your personal belongings from the car and take off the license plate on the day the car is scheduled to be picked up.
Is towing free? How long will it take to have my car donation picked up?
We provide free towing for all donated vehicles. In most cases your car will be picked within 48 to 72 hours after you have submitted your car donation information. We can pick-up vehicles within 24 hours if necessary, just tell us what is most convenient for you.
Can I donate a non-running car?
Absolutely. We accept all car donations - whether running or non-running. All donations are greatly appreciated.
What else can I donate?
In most cases, you can also donate a boat, motorcycle, RV or property.
Do you accept non-running cars?
All cars are accepted, running and non-running.
Do you pick up in all areas?
Yes, we accept car donations in all 50 U.S states.
